New towel radiator has no fittings
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM
We had a towel radiator in our bathroom, that a week or so ago came off the wall when one of the brackets broke. It was old so we decided to replace it. I bought a new one exactly the same size on the basis that there shouldn’t be a need to drain the system. When it’s arrived, I have the old valves in place but no way of connecting them to the new rad. The new rad just has threaded holes drilled in. I’m thinking I could just put a coupler in and some pipe between the coupler and the valve. Or is there something I can buy to fit it properly?

Radiator valves are standard thread . Theres a valve side and radiator side that screws into the radiator.
If you have taken the old on off. It will screw into new one.

Did you take the tails out the bottom of the old rad ? they should come out using a spanner.

You need to buy two radiator valve tails, or remove the old ones. A spanner will usually do this, if not you'll need to buy a hex key specifically designed for this purpose. When fitting new ones remember to use ptfe tape or similar on the tail thread.

just an addition to johnstone's advise as threads tighten clockwise be sure to wind your ptfe tape on the thread anti clockwise otherwise it will do nothing.
seen it loads of times and put a bit of boss white on tape as well i always do at least 16 wraps (never had a leak) ha ha.
