Already have liner in chimney for previous gas fire
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM
I had removed the old fire and had the gas capped off when I moved in 4 years ago,I am now thinking of putting a gas fire back in as my front room is cold in the winter, can I put any type of gas fire in, bit unsure wether I can have just a inset one and the gas connected or is it a bit more complicated as I have an open fireplace and I’ve just inserted an electric one in front Many thanks in advance for any help...

You can have any fire that adheres to the current British safety standards. They need safety shut off devices and an emergency shut off in the gas line. If it will produce products of combustion you will need a flue/chimney liner.
As long as those standards and laws are adhered to you should be fine.

Would be advised to firstly have chimney And liner checked they are in suitable working conditions, prior to any installation taking place along with existing gas pipe carcass and isolation being suitably in place. If liner Deemed satisfactory be suitable for selected range of gas fire appliances.
Hope this was helpful
Thanks

Existing liner should be inspected as much as possible, smoke tested and termination checked. Usual size for liners are 5 inch which is important when buying a fire which must be suitable for the flue type/size

You can. Some fires do not require a chimney liner as previously stated. Chimney is sufficient
