What do with wooden floor in bathroom
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.24 PM
I have a old bathroom in a property we have recently moved into we have a lovely freestanding bath but the floor is also wooden an damaged from water. Ideally we don’t want to move the bath as the pipe work is pretty old too. any advice as to what we could do with the floor?

Depending on how damaged the floor is you could ply board over the whole lot and then lay either some karndean or some Lino/vinyl down which is waterproof to give you a new finish to your bathroom

my advice would be to carefully take up any damaged floor boards and replace with new and then use a high quality marine grade plywood minimum 6mm thick and glue it and screw it to the existing boards ( Using 25mm screws only ) to minimise the chance of going into the pipework and then it will be ready to tile or carpet or for vinyl flooring

I would move the bath. Repair the floor as if the bath is cast iron it will weigh a ton especially filled with water so a weak floor won't be ideal, lay a minimum 18mm ply then tile, vinyl whatever choice you decide. Pipework is no problem just renew it. If the bath has been there for years then waste will need clearing.
