How can I ensure my bathroom paint doesn’t bubble?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.24 PM
So I live in a rental property and the paint near the bath/shower had started to bubble. The landlord hasn’t tiled the bathroom. I emailed the letting agent and she told us to sandpaper the bubbles off and paint another colour - ensuring it’s bathroom paint. Is this going to last? I don’t want to have to buy paint every few months or is it worth me asking the landlord if he’d allow us to tile it? Thank you!’

Unfortunately when moisture has gotten into a surface and its painted over this often happens if the said area is not dried out properly prior to painting. This sometimes puts you in a catch 22 situation as you need to use the room a lot. Try and make sure the area is as dry as possible then use a product possibly from Valtti /Tikkurila there technical dept will advise.

Sand down the area and paint on some stabilizing solution or sealer. Then paint on your bathroom paint

If the bathroom does not have extraction you are fighting a losing battle. If it does, Rub down flaking areas, apply a stabilising solution, then paint with good quality Trade paint.
