Does a 13A oven really need a dedicated wire from the fuse box?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.24 PM
I just wanted to check! Because our previous electrician told us we needed to use the same wire and move it around the kitchen for a single electric oven, but the new electrician (who seems better) told me it's fine to just make a new circuit from the other walls socket because it's only 13A appliances. For context it's a 35 year old house with an old electrics system. Thanks!

Bs 7671 clearly states cooking equipment exceeding 2 kw must not be permanently connected to a ring final circuit.

It needs to be a straight connection to the fuse box, if you adapt it for plug use this will trip the fuse box. Good luck

It does, you don’t want a connection I.e block or wagos to re-locate your cooker although it works yet it’s a lot of amps to pull. I would recommend the same with your new electrician but it depends if you want it surfaced in mini trunking or a re-wire in your walls, it all boils down to your decoration in your kitchen.

Hi
If the Oven is a low wattage oven it would be fine off the current ring main (13A normally 2.6kw - 2.8kw).
Make sure it is isolated by a 13A fused spur.
BUT MAKE SURE THE CIRCUIT IS A RING NOT A RADIAL, ALSO ON A 32A MCB
