Unfinished job after being paid

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

I paid the plumber in full the day before he was to complete the job. He hasn’t finished it after nearly 3 weeks....what can I do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would never pay a contractor untill he has finished the job. If it's a big job I would pay for materials but labour I would leave until job is finished and the customer is happy then I would expect payment. You can write to him informally and if there is no reply after doing that twice then take him to a small claims court he will be back to finish the job

Try sending 2 e-mails and if that won't help use hmrc service at https://www.gov.uk/make-money-claim Very easy to use and should scare him to completion, after that just court.

Unfortunately not a lot however if he is a reputable person and is known in the area, I'm sure he wont want to get a bad name. I'm sure he will just be busy and will come and finish it. I personally wont take money in advance in case I get held up as then it looks like your not gonna turn up, just keep in contact with him I'm sure it will be fine.
