Can i use easi fill over a painted wall instead of re-skimming?
A downstairs toilet has been painted with vynal silk. The wall finish isn't bad enough to warrant a complete skim. Can i "skim" over with easy fill to flatten up the wall and sand back?
With it being painted already, do i need to pva it 1st?
You're absolutely right.
I did the easi fill route and by the time i had sanded the wall, applied filler, sanded, 2nd hit and sanded again it made a bloody mess, it took all day and i left thinking it would have been easier and cleaner to have skimmed it.
The finish was ok by the time paint went on but it was a long winded way of doing so. Next time i'll skim opposite walls to get a better result.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi yes you can..... If you are wanting to use easi fill lightly sand the area first as this will provide key. Then whipe down the area to get rid of the dust use watered-down pva 4:1 allow it to go tacky then mix up the easi fill and plaster the area you wish.
Hope this is helpful.

Dont use pva.
Yes u can use easifill, it is now marketed as a filler that will adhere to painted substrates.
Toupret i would prefer to use although the cost per kg is higher.
Worth sanding to key before you do, and a wash down with sugar soap on a vinyl paint

Absolutely not it will end up looking like the sea on a calm day and the sanding will cause untold mess.
Easy fill is used mainly for jointing of new plasterboard and cosmetic making good .there is no substitute for preparing a wall properly and re skimming.

Hi the only way really to make good of a wall/ceiling is a whole re skim to get perfect otherwise if your going to sand down and trying to fill, it will look an awful mess as soon as the light or natural light shines on it, I know it’s a pain if the other end looks fine but it’s the only way to get a nice flat finish
