Bent window frame UPVC

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Hello, we got a new conservatory 4 years ago and have just noticed that one of the windows has bent. So the bottom section of the window just above the window sill on the outside of the conservatory is bent. When looking at it closer the actual window sill isn’t straight and has a bend in it also which the looks like it pushed the bottom part of the window frame upwards causing the bend. Just wondering if this is a fitting issue or if the heat could have caused this. It’s a very warm conservatory in summer due to south facing garden.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

From what you described ,it seems more likely that the section you say is bent, probably that has stayed in the original position & either side has dropped, This could be caused by many things, What the will was bedded on,cement, mastic, expanding foam etc, A proper ring beam to take weight of rafters, Movement of brickwork assuming its brick or block, Without looking at the conservatory impossible to say for sure ,

It’s hard to say without looking , but I sounds as though the cill has lifted. It’s an easy fix deglaze the window and use a frame anchor to fix the frame and cill back to the brickwork

If it is a dark colour conservatory it is possible that the heat has warped the framework but that sounds unlikely as its confined to one area. It's far more likely that it's due to a badly placed packing shim while leveling the building at the time of fitting. I imagine it would be a fairly simple process to remove the glass around the bent frame to get to the fixings then pack the sill straight with the frame.

Hi To be honest it’s very unusual that the cill is bowed a bit causing trouble with the windows now doors have issues in the sun they can expand and detract depending on temperature but the cill is unusual as the weight of the windows will stop any movement but I would wait until the weather cools a bit maybe a few weeks then if it’s the same it’s definitely a installation problem which can only be rectified by taking the windows out which will be difficult for the installation company.

if it is pvcu it is probably when the window was being screwed to the cill it wasn't clamped if so unscrew the screw to see if it straightens
