Damp Proofing

Damp in winter dry in summer - can I lay a floor down?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

I went to lay a floor in winter and was told by my carpenter that the damp reading was through the roof after seeing a wet patch. Since then we've had two damp specialists round and it seems to have dried out. Damp readings are low & patch is still there which may be more of a spill? Is it safe to lay a floor or will i face issues come winter? We cant find any problems under the boards and may be due to an external pipe overflowing sometimes in winter!?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You might want to lay a waterproof floor membrane

Check the air bricks are clear.air circulation is very important. Fix any water ingress from over flow pipes . Speak to your neighbors about the water table. Make sure no brick is touching wood directly if so place a membrane between the two. Use tantalized wood . Use treated floor boards .
