Fitting of Gas Cooker

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

I have twice ordered "actual" replacement cooker for my old cooker. After telephone conversation before fitting, they have declined. The kitchen is old, it has wallpaper behind the place where the cooker is going into (same place as old one), but the cooker as I said is an exact copy of the old one, it has the toast section above it, hence it has a splatter area covering holding the toasting area (Beko KA52NEW old one Beko Cascade). It will be next to my Fridge freezer) as the last three "old"have been fitted into & next too. The gap is 56cm wide - cooker 50cm wide. There is nowhere to move the fridge/freezer to within the kitchen, as I said it is old and there are few plugs within the kitchen. Are the regulations that strict? Can they refuse to fit the cooker, or can I find a gas fitter who will fit it for me, please? Otherwise, I will have no cooker to use (particularly the oven as the lock on the door is not repairable) forever end a day. I do not like microwaveable food....

The rules set in British Standards (6172) must be followed by the installer unless manufactures states any variations in the appliance instructions when installing gas cooking appliances. you will need 20mm clearance on both sides of the cooker at low level and the high-level grill will need to be 150mm away horizontally from any cupboards with 610mm clearance above the grill. Check in the manufactures instructions in regards to clearances from combustible materials, you may get away with it but I'd imagine you may need to strip the paper and paint the wall surface or tile behind.

The appliance if being conventional would also have been updated with more safety measures in place. As above the rules must be adhered and not recommended in close proximity to risk of catching fire. Hope this helps. Thanks pd

The other answer provided was fine but don't get the people delivering to fit they don't want the jobs. Just call a local engineer to give you proper guidance.
