Repairing a hole in the ceiling (small room)

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

I'm looking into getting a plasterer out to my home to repair a hole in the ceiling which was caused by a leak from the neighbour upstairs. To access their waste water pipe, parts of my ceiling had to be pulled down and now there is a hole. I don't know what type of plastering this requires e.g is it plasterboard etc? Can someone advise what is involved and will they need to do the entire ceiling or can the hole be repaired? How long is a job of this nature likely to take. For info, the rooms dimensions are 3.6m x 2.0m and the hole takes up around 1/3 of the ceiling and I'm in Scotland. Thanks!

It's hard to say without seeing as to what is already there. if it is plasterboard then it is an easy repair. and easy to patch if the existing ceiling as been plastered and not artexed.

You will be able to 'patch plaster' which is the cheaper way of fixing the problem. But to get the best finish the hole will be repaired with plasterboard and/or bonding and then multi finish over the top. Shouldn't take longer than a day.

I recommend replacing damaged plasterboard and then skim over the whole ceiling.

In my opinion jobs like that have to be viewed to see exactly what needs doing
