Hi all
Update
Well thanks so much for the amazing response, everyone is signposting towards doing the skirting first. It shows on the tin touch dry 4-6 hours, does this mean I can't do the walls for the 4 hours
Hope that makes sense, thanks again.
Story of the painting so far
Walls have had one coat of Dulux trade
Skirting and doors have had one Johnston water based undercoat and one Johnston water based satin wood
Not planned this way but i now only have one day painting left before the carpets are fitted so ...
on that day I will do the walls second coat . Can I then do the woodwork when the walls are touch dry
As the carpet touches the skirting and doors I definitely need them done. So I was thinking maybe do them, then do the walls after the carpets down
Howe much mess, marks will the me carpet going down cause
The walls are brilliant white and look amazing
There will be two full days between skirting and carpet is that okay.
That's to anyone to answers
Cheers
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi.
Well if I read this correctly you have a day to paint before the carpet is laid then you should be able to get the walls and skirting painted depending on size of room.
If your painting on the day then I would wait till the carpet is laid. That way you aren't laying carpet against wet or tacky paint and not worrying about damage to the finish or paint on the carpet. Then cover. First with plastic sheeting then dust sheets then carefully tape round carpet edge.
Hope this is of help

I would prioritise the skirting. Get that done first as it’s so much easier doing it without the carpet. As it’s water based it should have plenty of time to dry properly if it’s done the day before the carpet. A professional carpet fitter shouldn’t leave any mess or marks on the skirting. Even if they did it’s easier to just touch up a little bit here or there than to do the full thing.
Also it’s best to do the skirting first to do the thin top of the skirting. If the walls are done last it’s easier to get a neat line between the skirting and the walls. You may get a little bit of spray off the roller for the wall so either cover the skirting fully or have a sponge in warm water handy so you can quickly wipe off any emulsion that might get on the skirting when painting the walls. It’s easier to do it as it happens rather than to do it all at the end as a lot of it will have dried on my that point. I hope that helps
Hi
Personally I would get your skirting boards done first, as you are using satin and will only need one more coat, you mentioned you have 2 days so that would be enough for paint to dry. If there is slight damage when carpets go down it will be a quick touch up job. As for walls cover your carpet with plenty of sheets and paint the walls. In my opinion it's much easier to paint the walls after the skirting boards rather then the other way round. Hope this helps

Should leave as long as possible, should be fine after 4 hours, though depending on tape you use the paint may peel when taking it off. I would leave it to dry as long as possible.

You should be able to roll the walls all in one day, if your carpets are coming I’d get the skirting done. Make sure you use the wall paint to go over the skirting and any caulking that has been provided to avoid gaps.
Your wood paint you can cut in with on the skirting. Any touch ups can be done in the same day if it’s a water based paint.
Sheets and static plastic any furniture and lights Make sure you cover everything When loading the roller ensure the paint is rolled onto the roller to reduce paint drips
