How to stop fences rotting if ground is a different level on each a side?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

If I have levelled my garden and it is now at a significantly lower level than the adjoining garden, between which I wish to put up a fence, will the base of the fence rot or be put under pressure from earth on the other side? If so, what can I do to prevent this? And can it be done without the use of a concrete base slat?

As others have said concrete gravel boards will prevent the fence rotting but of course bare in mind you will need to use slotted concrete posts as well for this type of fence. Depending on the height difference you may need to consider a properly built retaining wall before installing the fence though.

Concrete gravel boards are the answer to the problem as wood will always rot if earth is up against the fence or even wooden gravel boards will rot putting in concrete gravel boards and concrete posts may be slightly dearer at first but will save you money in the future

Concrete posts if the ground is susceptible to rising water levels.
