Krend external on my house. Has this job been done to a good standard?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.24 PM
I have just had the front of my house plastered in krend. I am just a customer so am not aware of the trade. The guy said hes finished but am not sure if this is how it should look when finished and wanted another professional opinion before we pay him. What are some key things I should look for? I would post pictures but can't see a way of doing it
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Need to see the finish, but it should have been done in one go, then you you don't have any unsightly joins.

Without pictures I wouldn’t be able to give a professional opinion on the matter I would get anouther tradesman around to inspect the work if you are that concerned

Hi,stand back at look straight at your house,1 does the colour look uniform across the house.2does the scraped pattern look the same, sometimes if left too long before scraping render goes too hard and the patern looks harsh and scratched, should look like coral.3can you see any joints or excessive uneveness. K Rend is applied to a smooth and flat consistency, it is then finished the following day with a float with metal spikes to achieve the best result normally a coarse texture.
K Rend is never finished in one hit as the render has to set up before it can be finished properly

If u feel it’s not a good finish u should always ask a 2nd opinion. As above Krend should be done in one pass unless broken up by a bead

The scraped finish for me is to harsh and rough! so tend to smooth it out like traditional renders and opt for a sponged surface which is a smoother better looking finish, but do not polish, and doesn't seem to stain as easily as the rough finish.
Looks great and lasts for years keeps it's colour no cracks or shrinkage.
He should have asked you what finish you wanted!
And KRend is a two coat application material just like sand cement applications.
It says it on the bags?!?
When you are undertaking any big jobs like this you must sit down with the plasterer/builder and truly understand what it is you want the finish to be, not just leave it to him and then say you don't like it or you didn't understand.
