Nasty concrete driveway

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

I am thinking about buying a house which has a nasty concrete driveway - cracks and sunken areas. It is a long single width driveway. I was wondering if it is: a - normal to resurface a concrete driveway in poor condition; b - pave over it; c - smash up and pave completely new driveway.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would say c will be your best option for the long run

I would also suggest c as the sub base is insufficient it will need hardcore putting in and whacker plating down then put new drive on top

I recommend if driveway is cracked & in poor condition, take out & replacement with new type 1 mot stone before paving

Removal existing concrete would be necessary prior to laying any new surface or the sub base will sink or crack if overlaying is undertaken

Honest answer Have at least 200mm taken out or 250mm Have a sub base from 150-200mm type 1 50mm sand and more compaction then monoblock would be a fix for this

Any concrete driveway that has cracked or been damaged will need taking out and removing, if there is only a small patch that has cracked you could possibly get away with cutting that section out, re prepping it and tarmac overlay the lot. But no proper company will guarantee the job as they did not prepare the existing driveway

Best Go for C, Because existing Driveway Is Damaged Best to Take out the old driveway and put a New Driveway With a New foundation you also wouldn't get a right business to give you a guarantee for the new driveway as they did not do the old driveway.

A new driveway should last up to 15 years , money wise doesn't worth it to fix the old concrete driveway.
