Bathroom Fitting

Extractor fan into roof space.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

Hi, I wonder if you could help? I'm looking to strip the bathroom back to bare bones and dry line everything but I'm thinking of installing an extractor fan into the ceiling but I'm not sure where to remove the condensation within the roof space? I looked at removing roof tiles but I'm not confident getting on the roof to sort it. I was wondering if there was any other method? Thanks Tom.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Either vent through a gable end if you have one, a roof tile vent ( quick job for a roofer) or you could vent with a flexi through the soffit( again if you have a suitable soffit and it’s not asbestos). Either that or let your electrician advise as a notifiable electrical job is being done

If you have a soffit I would extract it through ducting to there this is the easiest way of doing it or contact a roofer to put a vent in.

Yes I agree with the soffit method but the pipe must go op and then slope down to the soffit outlet other wise if it is cold in the roof space the steam will condense and water will form in the pipe and flow back into the bathroom

I strongly agree with the other advise being given, however if budget is tight you can get a condensation tray so extract into the roof space with the flexible duct and then a plastic box is on the end which sits in an accessible place which would just need checking/emptying once in a while.

We would recommend installing a vertical flue duct through the roof with a mushroom cap to prevent water penetrating down into the flue duct. Regards,
