Is it worth fitting a water hammer arrestors

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

Hi, Banging noises from the pipes when washing machine is taking in water, not obvious where the clip is loose as it is coming from behind a wall. Is it worth fitting a water hammer arrestor and is this a fairly straight forward job for a plumber? Thanks in advance

Yes, water hammer is well know to cause issues to in appliances that are connected to the cold main over time. small shock arrestors are easy to fit and certainly cheaper then repairs that may be needed down the line.

Yes it could help. There are isolator valves to appliances. Are they fully open? You may find that the handles on them are faulty and not correctly in the full position.

Water hammer has various cause. Stop tap jumper, in house or in street. Also ballvalves can cause issues, also loose pipework can be a factor. Find a knowledgeable local plumber who can advise.
