Cracked plaster?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
Hello I have noticed a few cracks in our internal walls, around hall window frame and around door frames. Could this just be cracked plaster? We have stripped wallpaper from bedroom and there are a few cracks evident on all walls. They are not wide as such but are a decent length. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hi It could possibly be just the plaster cracking due to old age, wear and tear, vibrations so on if the damage isn’t to a extent where it’s completely off the wall then you could easily get some poxyfiller from bnq, wickes and apply the poxyfiller to the said area , sand down the said areas and then paint hopefully the cracks won’t come back but it’s not a definite if you want 100% strip it back and re plaster.
Hope this is any help.

Hi,
Yes, it is cracked plaster. It can be a number of things, poor workmanship, the plaster drying out, movement within the foundations of the building or expansion within the frame of the house (more likely in a new build or timber frame house)
When were the walls plastered?

Hi there,
It’s difficult to say without looking at it but more than likely just a superficial crack that can be remedied easily. Hope that helps.

Likely hood is superficial with age of building would need a good investigation to rule anything drastic out but what you could always do is measure them over a certain period which will indicate any movement. Alot of older properties have problems with boot leg lintels some fail and some just twist which can also cause cracking.
Hope that helps
