Gloss paint has started to peel on doors and skirting

There are several reasons that gloss work peels the most likely and one that I see often is due to the surface not being prepared properly. It is likely that whoever painted last painted water-based gloss on solvent based gloss without using a suitable primer/undercoat first. Simple solution is to rub the paint off with 180 sand paper (it should come off quite easily) apply 1 coat of Zinsser bin followed by a suitable undercoat finished with the top coat of choice.

all good advice,is it just the top layer peeling off or are you back to bare wood?

Poor preperation can cause paint to peel as can contaminates that may have been present even after rubbing down. Stuff like grease or previous paint having to much turps mixed as a thinner give the woodwork a good rub down then wash it down with soapy water dry off wipe over with warm clean water or metholated spirits then undercoat and gloss.

When glossing woodworking you need to make sure the wood has been rubbed down probably to give the paint a key to stick to,and make sure all the wood is undercoated beforehand and use good paint like dulux etc

No preparation of the surface someone just painted it. Sand fill sand spot coat sand between coats.

Sounds like lack of rubbing down. Need to give the paint something to key to. Also keep doors open as long as possible to allow to dry out as the surface can be touch dry but paint beneath can stay wet for while and when pushed against the frame can stick and then tear off when door is reopened.

Applying a gloss paint to rapidly caused this to happen and applying over unsealed surface.
