Painting previously painted slightly embossed wallpaper
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
I have just completed my 4 th coat of matt emulsion on slightly embossed previously painted (matt finish) wallpaper. it remains patchy. Do I need a longer pile roller ? Should I have primed the surface ? Any suggestions to remedy ?

I'm with GT Decor on this one so many people going with cheep paints it ends up costing more in the end. Get a good long pile roller and good quality paint.

Shouldn't need a long pile roller if its slightly embossed. But a good quality medium pile, and good quality paint should have got the job done in 2 coats.
What do you mean by 'patchy'?

You should really use a long pile roller & quality emulsion.
2 coats should be fine.
There might be paste left on the surface of the wallpaper.

Medium pile and good quality paint are the first two steps. You are using matt emulsion- when you say patchy, is it shiny patches coming through? or the paint being a slightly different colour? If you are going dark to light, you may need more coats than you think.

Use a quality paint especially if the previously painted surface was a little bit dirty.
