Spongy floor in the bathroom

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

The last resident of the property layed down vinyl flooring in the bathroom and it feels super spongy is that normal or is it full of water and should i replace it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Seen your enquiry. It would suggest a DIY install and further investigation. Any lino should have Preperation done to British Standards followed by the correct install. Using Spray Glue isn't the answer and a clear cop out / corner cut if done. However. Alot of installers will say it will be fine. Personally I'd advise do it right one over keep re doing it.

There is a soft vinyl on the market but you shouldn't sink in to it. If the floor feels spongy it might be the chip board is damp and soft . Worth checking !

As an installer i can agree with other advice. Vinyl/cushion floor comes in different thicknesses and believe it or not some people(diy) i have seen pit underlay underneath which should never be done. But without visually inspecting or any pictures its hard to tell what the cause is at the moment.

Sounds like they have put an underlay underneath which should not be done when fitting vinyl, the floor should be prepared with a hardboard or plywood, I don’t think that it’s water making it feel like that because you would hear the water as you walked on it, best thing to do is pull it up from one of the corners and have a look

I agree with Dupont carpets. Definately sounds like underlay underneath. If it is you can take vinyl up, remove underlay and then re glue it back down with a silicone seal around the edge.
