Domestic Installer Scotland
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM
Can someone tell me if these Electrical Domestic Installers courses and the NICEIC are recognised are applicable in Scotland to carry out domestic electrical work and sign it off or is this only in England and Wales. It seems to be a grey area and no one is quite sure. Thanks

Building Services Certification for electrical contractors working in Scotland.
Whilst all electrical work in the UK is subject to BS 7671, this scheme recognises the different building regulations that operate in Scotland.
The Scottish Government Building Standards Division manages The Certification Register - the only authoritative source to find approved bodies and approved certifiers. Used by clients, homeowners and local authorities, successful applicants to this scheme will appear on this register.

The NICEIC do not offer the domestic installer scheme to contractors based in Scotland. Contractors can only enroll as an “approved contractor” if based in Scotland which covers the full scope of works. However, registered “domestic installers” in England / Wales can work in Scotland provided they are aware of the scope of works they are authorised to undertake and notify to the local authority.
In all honesty, there’s a lot less that comes under the scope of noticeable work north of the border. For example, changing a consumer unit in England and Wales is notifiable. In Scotland, it isn’t.
