How do I connect the bottom of my downpipe to the rest as it is smaller than 68mm?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM
I have had to take my old cast iron downpipe down as the pins holding it to the wall were rotted and it was backed up with sludge. The bottom section of the down pipe is smaller than 68mm (more like 64/65mm) but is concreted a foot into the ground, is there a socket which can reliably join up the smaller downpipe section to a standard 68mm downpipe? Thanks

Hello.
If you look online, a company we regularly use for our parts required that aren’t always on the shelf, at gutter supplies.co.uk they should have a part listed that will do just that, failing that a normal round downpipe socket may fit, with the lower part of the socket being a smaller diameter than the top allowing it to sit in a stand upvc pipe should allow it to fit into the drainage with some persuading.
The correct part should be available however the cost may increase compared to a standard issue part due to the rarity and cost to manufacture individually, you can expect to pay up to 10X the standard equivalent.

Yes there is a rubber connector available with large jubilee clips on it. Available at most good builders / plumbers merchants.

Hi
If you have installed a new plastic downpipe you could try using a dwnpipe connector which is narrower than the actual downpipe. Failing that if you gently heat the bottom of the new downpipe with a blow torch this will soften the plastic allowing you to reshape it smaller. Hope this helps.
