Does the skirting board not need to be removed for damp proofing around the chimney breast?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Ideally, yes. The skirting should be isolated from the newly damp proofed wall by attaching a dpm membrane on the back of the skirting when reinstating (if the skirting is salvageable)

yes it does and the plaster removed back to the brick /stone /block to approximetly 1.0 to 1.3 meters above the injection site if the wall plaster is contaminated by nitrates/chlorides then you need to hack off the wall plaster to 300mm above the contaminated area new or existing skirting boards should have a barrier such as a dpm (plastic sheet) between the timber skirting and the new wall plaster. Wall plaster to be cut off to approx 25mm above the floor finish (cement screed) damp proof injection treatment needs to be installed above out side ground level to elleviate lateral penetration of ground water then tanked from the injection site to the finished floor level internally. Tanking to extend minimum of 100mm across the floor screed/ wall junction hope this helps
