Can we re-use conservatory glass in new extension?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

THANK YOU very much for your answers guys - pretty conclusive I'd say! Looks like we need new glass! Thanks again, it's so lovely that you took the time to explain. Hello! we have a 20-year-old powder-coated aluminium lean-to conservatory which is still in excellent condition, but we're planning to remove it and build a two-story side extension on the same footprint. There are five floor to ceiling double-glazed units in the conservatory (80cm x 180cm), and it seems a shame to just demolish them, so I was wondered if we could re-use them in the brick and glass extension? We're Cheshire based, and just in the planning stages, so any advice would be very gratefully received! thanks, DW

The short answer is no as the unit thickness won’t comply with current building regs

Hello Dismantling glass panels will damage them in my experience. You can try but I wouldn't recommend it. Regards Brendan

Hi, By the time you have removed them carefully , cleaned them up and refitted them ,you won`t be saving much, and they will still look old and probably scratched.

The old glass wont comply with current Building Regulations so unfortunately you wont be able to re-use it.
