Installation Of A New Transformer
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.50 PM
Hi all, I bought my house around a year ago and had an electrician doing some rewiring and installing new light units. He checked all the electrical work in the house (even things he hadn't touched) and gave me a certificate to comply with the building regulations. I had 6 halogen bulbs in a room that the electrician hadn't touched that were flickering a lot and used to go completely off if I had the lights on for like an hour or so. I searched the internet and found that the cause is probably the transformers are not supplying enough wattage and need changing. I then decided to change the halogen lights to leds and change the transformers as well to new DC ones to be compatible with the new led lights. I changed the two transformers myself (they were in the loft) along with all the bulbs (no bulb fittings changed), that was around six months ago and everything is working perfectly fine since then. My question is, do I need a certificate for the work I had done ? giving that I had changed the transformers from AC (halogen) to DC (leds) and obviously they were not the "same type" ? I have read a lot on the internet that some electrical work needs a certificate or to be reported to some authority. Does this fall under this category ? if so, can a certified electrician certify that work ? Thanks in advance.
