How do I permanently stop weeds from growing through the cracks of my paved garden?

How do I permanently stop weeds from growing through the cracks of my paved garden? I usually have to scrape them out and used weed killer every few weeks, but they eventually grow back. How do people usually stop them for good? I was the first to move into this property over 18 years ago. Originally, only a third of it was paved. The other 2 thirds had grass. I'm guessing this issue could have been prevented when the garden was being paved.

Hi.
As your paving is already laid, I would recommend that the pointing is removed, joints cleaned out and then a joining compound with anti weed and anti crack abilities applied instead.
That will be your best option together with keeping paving clean.
However weeds comes from above with seeds being blown into the paving and if its not clean, weeds will grow...

Go to your local d.i.y. store and buy some paving grout it is dry dust , jet wash or scrape out the cracks, when the paving is dry sweep in the dust , the will go hard it is better than using sand .

Ive got the same problem at home, the best and cheapest way is salt, it will sterilise the ground which is great on driveways and patios as long as there are no plants in close proximity as it will kill them as well, rock salt is the cheapest way, any decent builders merchant will stock it, just pour it on neat.
