Bypass treadmill emergency stop /safety key

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

Ok thank you all for your help. It’s a pain as it’s a £1600 treadmill that won’t work without the key. The company does not make them anymore and I can’t find a key that fits. I agree with the safety aspect of it all but I had no other choice. Thanks anyway. —- I have a treadmill and want to bypass the emergency stop magnetic key because the part is missing and irreplaceable. I’ve taken the wires apart but no idea how to bypass the magnetic piece. The part is the emergency stop or “safety key”. You are supposed to use a certain magnet which you plug in front of the machine and the treadmill works. When the magnet is off the machine will switch off. I’ve tried several magnets I’ve bought off the internet and none fit my machine perfectly and it won’t start so I’m trying to bypass the magnet and connect the wires together somehow. Can anyone help at all?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I trust that no one here will offer you help on this issue because you are trying to bypass a fundamental safety aspect of a treadmill. One example, if someone tripped over and got their hair caught in the machine then it could rip their scalp off. I would seriously advise against messing with the emergency stop mechanism.

The switch should never be bypassed it's a safety feature on the machine incase any1 gets in to difficulty it will cut out the treadmill

If any professional did what you are suggesting and by-pass the safety features, should something go wrong he/ she would be sued and dependant on any injuries or worse probably lose their house etc. You would not find anyone on here ( I hope)! giving you any tips on how to do it.

I would suggest replacing the magnetic switch with a shut off switch as fitted to motocross motorcycles. It’ll offer the same safety cut off feature required to keep it safe and these are not expensive.
