Cable size for 90m distance
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.23 PM
I’m putting a Shepard hut 90m away from house that will have 2 sockets a couple of lights and a 9kw shower. What size underground cable do I need ? Many thanks.

You require a registered electrician to attend, do some cable calculations etc to determine the size of cable. Taking into consideration distance, load, nature of cable run, type of earthing in your property etc, etc. By the way, this is not a diy job, but it is a notifiable one-to Building Control.

Very big due to voltage drop etc. Quick calculation comes out at 95 mm😂😂 suggest moving it closer or lose the shower
2.4 % volt drop at 15 KW ( you haven’t said what sockets would run) is 50 mm before any derating for reference method which may be applied subject to installation other than buried. Good luck terminating these. Get a sparks in

16mm for 9kw shower load, with a voltage drop of max 5%. 25mm if you take into account other possible loads at sockets.
