Gap between wall and showertray

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

Hi, our plumber has laid the shower tray but where the room isnt square there is a gap around the perimeter of the tray ranging from a few mm to over a cm. How can I waterproof this prior to tiling please ? I have the mapei shower waterproofing kit but how will I go about sealing the bottom of the moisture resistant plasterboard to the shower tray ? I assume waterproof grout betwee the bottom tiles and shower tray wouldnt stop the water ? Thank you

A centimetr is quite substantial to cover, you have mentioned water resistant plasterboard, can you take it of the stud wall and adjust with spacers or use bonding coat plaster on top. Than silicone the gap between tray and wall and for added security use waterproofing on top. "waterproof grout betwee the bottom tiles and shower tray wouldnt stop the water" you are correct there. The tray will flex a little and you need to finish of with good mould resistant silicone in all corners.

U already have a tanking so use the tanking tape around the bottom of tray then paint with yanking solution then tile.

Hi, I would have recommend cutting on the the wall by 10mm so you can slide the shower try back into the wall. That would close the gap and give you a good fixing for your waterproof membrane to be installed. Once tiled down to the shower tray a bead of silicon along the bottom will stop any water from coming through.

First of all the tray must be equal leaning against the wall and not a 10mm gap, so take it of and fit it properly. Before fix the tray stick the tanking strip alongside who touches the wall or use silicon CT1 instead, make sure that you apply enough silicone then use the Mapei kit following the instructions. Good luck

Hi, I would line the wall with 10 mm cement boards so that any wall covering meet the shower tray, then with a quality mould resistant silicon seal around the bottom
