Laying lino on very low profile old tile adhesive
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.44 PM
Hi. I have removed my old tiles from the floor and wonder if I can get a decent life out of lino (before it shows any subfloor consistencies) if the existing subfloor only has very low profile old tile adhesive......and a few cracks that I can fill IT IS LIKELY THAT THE LOW PROFILE TILE ADHESIVE IS BITCHUMIN DOES THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO HOW I PROCEED?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It would possibly need hard boarding before the vinyl is laid

It will need a specialist smoothing compound like Ardex NA or Stopgap1200 that will adhere to old adhesive residue. If it is a wooden floor then 6mm plywood.

There are 2 options depending on how much you want to spend. You could ply board the floor or you could screed it.

If concrete subfloor I would recommend a latex screed

I would recommend getting a professional fitter to take a look. it could go very wrong if wrong products are used
