Plastering Wedi board or similar foam core tile backer board?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.44 PM
Can you plaster onto Wedi board or other foam core tile backer boards? I'm lining a bathroom and want to have part of the wall tiled (floor to ceiling) and part of it painted. Also the tiles are glued straight to the backer board, so where the painted part of the wall starts does the plasterer need an edge of some sort to plaster to?

I would recommend using febond blue grit bonding agent before plastering you can plaster almost any surface with this product. You might be ok with pva but there is a chance this could crack due to suction problems on cement surface.i would finish the edge of tiles with a Crome square edge tile trim which will.give a nice finish to tiles and something to skim up to giving a nice neat joint to both surfaces.

High suction tile/cement boards are not ideal for plastering however a skim can be applied providing a blue grit adhesive is used to seal the board first

Wedi board will take plaster. I would use tile trim to plaster to but that's personal choice.
