Grease stains on dark green-grey paint

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

One of the walls on the living room is painted dark green-grey colour, there are several greasy looking stains on the wall (darker than the rest and oily looking), cleaning with fairy and soap cloth didn't do anything. What could these be and how could I remove them?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If household detergent hasn't worked then I suggest using white or methylated spirits or even turpentine as these should cut through and dissolve any grease and oil. Then I would apply an oil based undercoat or stain block on the effected area prior to repainting. I hope this helps.

Oil based paint or stain block such a Zinzer or stain block in an aerosol can. If you have any oil based undercoat than that's the cheapest option.

Hi firstly I would sand the oil patches down to give a good key then I would dust down and wash with sugar soap. Followed by a stain block such as zinsser B I N I believe these are also tintable to your colour of choice. Then finish with your finish coat.
