Painting baby room
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
Our baby has arrived unexpectedly early and now my wife would like to have the baby room finished straight away, so we can get our daughter used to sleeping alone. How long would you typically have to wait for the fumes to totally disappear? When is it safe for a baby to sleep in a freshly painted room? We bought VOC-free paint but we are not sure how many hours of days are safe for the child?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Personally I would use a breatheasy paint and a water based for paintwork ,very little odour and quick drying

Hi. The general advice is 24 hours with ventilating the room if possible, and that applies to paint with voc content. But having made the right choice of voc free paint you have removed these concerns

If you have selected a reputed voc free paint there should be no risks attached ,I would advise just too be completely sure ventilate for a day prior too use .

If you are using voc free paint then it is pretty much harmless as it gives off no toxic chemicals and is pretty much odorless. But for peace of mind, with a new child, make sure the room is well ventilated, with a fan blowing and leave if for 48 hours.
Congratulations by the way!

Use water based paint on all areas , as long as no oil based products or two pack fillers are used 24 hours would be more than enough time to any fumes/vapours/smells to clear
