White plastic overflow pipe dripping from eaves

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

Source is a small plastic insulated tank (cistern?) in our loft, and the water level is at the height of the overflow pipe. Water seems to drip in “bursts” from the overflow pipe to the concrete below. Thanks in advance - is it likely the ballcock valve being old / faulty?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it could be ballcock, but it could also be central heating system is pumping over, get a qualified plumbing /heating engineer to look at it.

Most commonly its the ball cock faulty in the loft but as you have discribed overflow leaking in bursts and not constantly it may have a fault with overheating on the system could be a faulty pump or part blockage of the system needs looking at asap

Yes. if it is the smaller plastic tank of the two then this is going to be your central heating header tank this problem occurring could also indicate a problem with the central heating system as there is not enough circulation around the radiators potentially so it pumps up and over into the small tank making the tank overflow this would explain the bursts your getting. Hopefully it's just a slow dripping/passing ball valve
