Summer house roof cover - difference in colour between rolls

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

I’ve just had a summer house put up and have noticed and complained that the roof colour is completely different shades from roll to roll. I have one light stripe (grey blue vs darker grey/ green) - it looks naff at the moment. Particularly as it’s over looked. I was told it will weather in - I doubt it .. but will it? Should I get them to change it? Can it be painted to blend in ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It appears they have used two different colour felts this would be the only reason why you would have two different colours and no it won’t fade in time it will remain two different colours they should come back and rectify there work

Sorry but as its two different colour felts The weather will never change there colours. This is really down to poor workmanship anybody with half a brain would have realised it was two different coloured felts and fixed it before laying it, its easier to correct a mistake before it happens. Get them back to do the job properly. Good luck Alex

Yeah I agree that won’t weather in maybe the time the roof needs replacing it might weather in but your be waiting a good 15 years+ They probably used a few odd rolls of felt they had laying round from other old jobs I personally think. I’d like to think no trade person would buy two different coloured felts. A point to note, if the quote they gave for the work was incredibly cheap then in my opinion you can’t expect them to torch more felt on top that is all the same colour yes they should had told you “ I’m using odd rolls from old jobs so the colours of each roll is different do you mind?” But obviously they assumed and every mistake in history was because somebody assumed something never assume always ask i say better too look a fool and have somebody laugh at you then a idiot and having your head crashing together. I think the fairest and easiest way to solve this is to ask them to paint the roof with a roof paint like cromapol comes in,grey, black and clear I’d recommend black for this job though and this isn’t too expensive £100 for a 20kg tin and then £30 for one tin of primer and £60 for two tins of primer your probably need two they don't go far the CP primer which must be used if bonding to bitumen don’t quote me of price of materials I’m just giving roughy estimate of top of my head. Who’s paying for that well as mentioned before if the quote they gave was cheap then you should pay the material and they shouldnt charge for the labour it should be free of charge for there error in communication with you. If they charged you a business rate and made profit not just made a day rate then they should pay for materials in my opinion. I think that would be fair too all parties involved. It would be nice to see there quote and to know a little more information though. You need to approach this with caution to avoid unnecessary arguments remember be fair, be stern and be honest with other each also remember your both humans with emotions too 👍🏼 I hope this helps Regards Frankie BT Roofing Services

Tis like wallpaper- different rolls have different shades - it will weather after a few years - perhaps you should have gone for a superior covering FIBREGLASS - any colour - and consistent throughout the pitch.... Get what you pays for......

They definitely being using strips from the old jobs they've had. It's not a problem, but obviously you have to match the colours. I don't think it will weather in time, unless it will get covered with moss in time. You can try that primer paint, but be careful because it's quiet sticky and all the leafs and other bits can stick there. If that was cheap job and it's no leak just leave it. If it's really bother you - get them to redo it. Eugene
