How to seal a hole after light fixtures in the ceiling

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

Moved into a new house - removed the ugliest damn light fixture I've ever seen from living room; since there is no need for ceiling light in the living room now need to lock all cables and patch a hole in the ceiling which is about 9-10 inches in diameter, how do I do that?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Push the cables up, screw a bit of plaster board to the ceiling then move around the area, scrim the joints then plaster it flush with the original surface

Screw a timber baton above the hole either side and cut a piece of plasterboard to fill the hole and screw to the baton. Plasterboard tape and fill with filler or plaster

Batons, the more the merrier. Then if you can get the same thickmess plasterboard and cut it to the size of the hole, screw that up. Dont use plaster as a patch up, use easifill, and fill it twice, moving the circumference of the area filled further on the second application using a caulker. If you do decide to scrim it there is an extra thin scrim available for this now, so when you lightly sand your repair to blend with adacent, there is less chance of sanding through to the tape

As AB Plastering suggested. Although ensure those wires are made safe before popping them in the ceiling. Don't pop them up there live
