Fencing

Ok to remove wall foundation so as to place fence post

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

I want to erect a fence on top of boundry wall. Wall is 3-4 foot high made with concrete blocks and runs along most of the boundry. The boundry at the top end of the garden has a 6ft close board fence with 4x4 post. I would like to carry this on on top of the wall and use 4x4 post but I'm mindful of the weight. so my idea is to post into the ground alongside the wall then use these posts to fix a fence on top of the wall to, also using post anchors on top of the wall for support. The wall footing is only around 1-2 foot down so i would need to remove parts of this to ensure posts are flush with the wall. Will removing sections of the foundation damage the wall (using demolition bar) and will this idea of placing post next to wall with fence on top work?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Use a hammer drill or demo bar to remove foundation. Be careful not to take out too much but the foundation if it was deep enough originally to support the lock wall should be fine. You could get some metal anchor plates to put into if the wall and secured with concrete screws to then put in the 4x4 posts to hold in the panels. I’ve done this before for a client and it’s worked. Ensure the concrete screws are good quality and a minimum of M8s thickness. Good luck

Yes you can you could dig down the side of footing and then pack it out to the wall or fix to the wall and concrete posts on top of footing

Yes you will definetly have to remove parts of the wall footings.I would suggest using a small sds drill .it will not affect wall.

Hi there shouldn’t be an issue with breaking out sections of the foundation, but it would be advised to use a stone cutter ( stihl saw ) to cut where you want the post to go to stop cracking further along the foundation. It will work but I would suggest cutting a notch out of the 4” posts so they actually sit on top of the wall rather than just in front , ( 25 -50 mm ) I would recommend, you could also anchor the fence to the wall using 100mm concrete fixings
