Bricklaying & Repointing

I have two concrete lintels. Which is best.

Hello guys. Hope this all makes sense. I will be installing a Stressline Universal Concrete lintel above a fireplace opening. I have two lintels. They are both 900mm long which is what I need, but one is 140x100 and the other is 100x65 The depth of the bricks in the chimney breast where the lintel will be going are 100mm deep. But I would ideally like to fit the 100x65 lintel with the height as 100mm and the depth as 65mm. The reason for this is that it will enable extra space behind the lintel to fit a register plate ect for a stove. (the builders opening depth is very shallow) It will also allow a little extra space for the flue pipe to go through the register plate. So my question is: Is it ok to fit the lintel with the depth of 65mm although the bricks above it have a depth of 100mm. Will the overhang of 35mm from the bricks above the lintel be ok. If not, could I place the lintel in a little further to make the over hang a little less, then just render over the face of the lintel to make it flush with the brick faces above it. Cheers guys. Kind Regards.

Sounds ok to me without actually seeing the job. What I would do to give the finish a more pleasing/professional look is to cut some brick slips to match the surrounding brickwork and stick them on to the lintel with a good quality adhesive. Regards, mick.

I would put it in the centre of the brick so it has equal over hang both sides but use the 65x100
