How to get rid of a pond?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.49 PM
I have a pond in my back garden. The previous owners installed it. Although I think the pond is a great idea, my wife does not have the same views. I was wondering how you remove it? Thank you
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,
You will need to transfer any pond life you have to a new environment empty the water with a submersible dirty water pump then take out the liner.
you will then need to fill and compact the excavation with shingle, aggregate or fill materials that will match and blend with the surrounding area.
good luck with your project.

It would be as simple as draining the water in the pond with a submersion pump or syphon the water out with a hose. Then once emptied remove the pond lining and after that back filling the hole. Hope this helps

I would take out the existing liner and pump if any and back fill with soil on site to ground level , this then could be turned in to a planter feature or redsigned back in to the landscape .

Isolate the electricity supply first .
Isolate the water supply, cap off and make good.
Drain the water.
Then remove the brickwork , liner ect.
Fill the hole with topsoil .

Empty the pond by removing all the water, plants, rocks, gravel etc. Dig out the liner and dispose of legally. If there is a membrane or other material below the liner take that out also.
Fill in the hole with subsoil or hardcore compacting in layers of 100mm or so to ensure the soil is solid and doesn't sink later.
Continue to fill the space until level with the ground around and top off with good quality top soil then seed with grass seed or perhaps turf the area.

Yes. Pump out water. Or bale out with buckets. Remove liner then fill base with hardcore and/or soil. Compact soil allow for ground to settle before turfing or planting would be my advice. .

Firstly the pond needs draining with a water pump then remove the lining fill with medium size hardcore at the bottom then reduce the size of hard core compacting as you go depending on what the finish cover is ( turf ) job finished
