Can I fit carpet over laminate?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
Is it ok to fit a carpet over laminate or do I need to remove laminate? Old laminate floor fitted rather well - sits tight with no loose parts.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I personally wouldn't put carpet on the laminate floor because carpet will not have proper grip to the floor and it will become loose soon or later.

No you can not . A floated floor needs to be able to expand and retract. You need to uplift and remove before a carpet is fitted.no carpet manafactorer would garrentee it.

I’d say yes you can, the only issue you will have is the floor level will change dramatically as the average carpet is 10mm and with underlay is about 8mm - 12mm

I’d say no as your laminate expands & shrinks so your gripper rods that are nailed to the flooring means that your carpet will expand and shrink also.

Done fitting carpet on laminate cause the carpets will sweat against a micro vynyl layer on the laminate which will cause a nasty smell

Agree to previous no, as one of previous answers said laminate expands and contracts and is a floating floor, if gripper is used maybe depending on laminate won’t hold well, would advise to lift laminate and avoid problems further down the line
