Ignition lockout and banging on ignition Ideal boiler

I have an Ideal Logic Combi 30. Recently the boiler has been failing to start and when it does it often makes a loud bang. My usual heating engineer has suggested just to replace the entire boiler but I’m wondering if a second opinion is worthwhile. Could a cleaning of the replacement ignition and flame sensor be a sensible first step? If these need to be replaced is this something that is more cost effective than a replacement boiler? The boiler is roughly 6 years old. Was poorly maintained before we bought the property and since we have fit a magna cleanse, properly filled the system, replaced all rads and serviced. Had someone out who has replaced ignition, flame sensor and the ignition cable and then do a safety check. All working like a charm now. £150 for parts and labour feel like money well spent. Thanks for the advice.

Replace the electrode & zig box, explosive ignition is very common amongst boilers and doesn’t require a boiler change. These parts are relatively cheap!

Hi It seems like there is a build up of gas before it is ignited hence the reason for the loud bang. Could replace the spark ignition/electrode or generator. Depending on the condition of the boiler, it's age and cost of replacing the parts compared with the cost of a new boiler. It's your call.

I would say this could be a gas valve / ignition issue myself and new boiler sounds a little extreme. Normally these symptoms suggestbitnis not getting the correct mix of gas therefore when it ignites it can make a loud bang or even fail. It needs the perfect mix of oxygen and gas to run smoothly. New boiler when's it's only six years old is a joke.

Have it looked at for a second opinion, it probably is repairable however Ideal is a pretty awful manufacturer so expect more repairs in the coming years. At best an ideals life span is 7-9 years more if you keep it going with parts but economical viability becomes the time to change. Also the additional works you have done with the filter and radiators won’t extend its life. Servicing is a good way of maintaining it and getting an early warning of potential failures.
