Top Shower not working

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

I’ve just moved into a property and the top shower head out of the wall isn’t working properly, only a trickle of water is coming out of it. There is a bottom shower head that I would use to wash down the bath that workers properly. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If there is only a little bit of water trickling out sometimes the head can clog up so i would recommend to take this off and check the flow rate of the water with no head on if its still bad then it is a problem with the mixer bar not the head but if its ok then you would need to clean the head some times you can get a pin and clear the holes and leave to soak in boiling water with a lime scale remover.

Hello Danielle. Based on what you described it looks like your shower mixer don’t have pressure problems because the lower shower head is working fine so makes me think of two things that might cause the problem: 1-The top shower head out of the wall might have lime scale, calcium and other dirt buildup that creates by time while water has been used. 2-Shower mixer particularly shower head switch not distributing water properly to shower head above. The way to fix this is : 1a-Change filter of top shower head which can be found once the top shower head is unscrewed from the shower mixer, also clean top shower head of any buildup by using techniques that can be found on YouTube regarding this matter. 1b-Change top shower head with a new one. If that doesn’t solve the problem than you might need to change shower mixer with a new one. Personally I would suggest you to try with the cleaning of the top shower head if it is a case of clogging if thats not the case than you will need a plumber to have a look at it and assess the problem. Hope this info helps.

There are several reason why this could be happening. 1. Scale is blocking the shower head nipples 2.The diverter in the mixer is failing/blocked with scale. 3. The head of pressure is to low. If you have an open vented system you would simply require a shower pump to be Installed so the water pressure is boosted to allow the flow of water to reach the required height of your shower head. If your system is an unvented system then I would recommend replacing the mixer valve 1st as this is commonly the issue. Hope that helps

I would say faulty diverter valve

I would say it's either: - Faulty diverted valve (the device that you operate to switch water flow between the two outlets). - Insufficient head (pressure) to produce flow from the top outlet. - Shower pump should have been fitted and never was. - Shower pump is fitted and it isn't working? Check to see if a pump is located somewhere on the system and if is plugged in/switched on. Perhaps check the fuse and replace. If the fuse is blowing repeatedly then the pump is likely to be worn and will need replacing.
