We have an awful smell in our conservarty.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

Our conservatory was built over a man hole, which I was assured would not smell. Now 3 years later we have an awful smell coming up and I am assuming it is from that, however, there is another drain that goes in from the kitchen which might also be causing the smell. We have laminate flooring over the top of both. How do I find out which one is the problem and then fix it?

Blocked drain need check first. Another possible cause is damp. Damp can make heavy smells. If you have damp in your conservatory then ensure it's properly ventilated, or you could use a dehumidifier to reduce the amount of moisture in the conservatory. As with most rooms in the house, conservatories can also develop a musty smell simply if they're left unused for too long.

First things first . Ask ur next door neighbour if they have block drains . If not . Laminate has to come off and check ur manhole cover . Normally manhole covers have seal to prevent escape of any fawl smell.

First I would ask if there sinks and toilets are backing up when using (not draining away correctly). I would also get them to ask next door the same. If not I would then look into taking up what’s needed to access the man holes and see if they are blocked up or need a clean through.

Manhole could not have a proper seal but if you have a sink waste it’s good and waste being washed down and if it’s not sealed right it would give smells as well
