Help!I painted a mark on my wall but still stands out. Is there any way to remedy my mistake?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

Yesterday I went over my friend's house to touch up a few marks on their wall. Apart from a large area, most touched up fine and looked great after the paint had dried. The larger mark in question is a different matter, as it is now 24 hours later and it looks like a large lighter patch on my friends wall! The colour matched ok as the smaller touch up areas blended in. This one however did not and I'm mortified as I've ruined my friends wall. My question is: how is the best way to remedy this botched paint job?! I thought about using a roller to go over the entire wall in the hope that it will all blend in. If this is the case should I rub down the affected area first? Not only that but I'm also concerned that the wall will look different to the remaining three walls and I'm afraid of making the situation worse. Any other solutions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

1, Lightly rub down the area. 2, Use a Zinsser shellac stain block. 3, Touck in the area with emulsion. 4, Finally emulsion the whole wall for an even finish.

Good morning, touching up areas can be very tricky especially dependant on how much sun light the walls have soaked in and faded over time, some darker colours are a nightmare in generall as they will dry lighter after being touched in. My advise would be to re roll the entire wall that concerns you making sure that you cut in all areas of that wall and not to go onto the other wall whilst doing so. hope this helps.

As long as its not a stain it will be fine. Re-cut the wall in at the edges and and roll a full coat. Because you are losing it at the edges you won't be able to see the shade difference. If it is a stain then apply stain block to the patch and leave to dry, touch up the patch and redo the full wall as above.

Go over the stain with B.I.N. Stain block leave to dry for a few minutes and then coat the whole wall again, this wall will dry out all the same.

If i read correctly then this isnt a stain so why the advice to stain block i've no idea. The remedy is to apply a full coat to that whole wall, cutting in edges to adjoining walls. Unless the shade difference is a lot ( which it doesn't sound like it is) Then it will not be noticable as the eye looks into the corners
