Tiling

Silicone in the corner of the bath (after tiling)

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

I'm siliconing around the bath after finish tiling (thank god - that wa shard work!) I'm going with white around the bath and ceiling and a colour match with the grout down the corners of the room. My question is how do I go about doing this is regards to the two silicone meeting at the corners of the bath? Do I do the bath/ceiling first then when dry do the corners?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get a small water squishy bottle and a small silicon tool from any local DIY store ( they are about £4) Add a small amount or washing up liquid to the water.. apply silicon to everywhere if your confident enough or do each edge end to end. A quick wet with the bottle and run the tool along it for a perfect finish every time. Wipe excess from tool as you do each length.

It’s best to silicone the whole bathroom at the same time, my advice if you are inexperienced is to get somebody who has practiced the technique as it can be a difficult skill and something you will be looking at whilst having a long soak!! An experienced mastic tradesman can really compliment the tiles

Always do the corners/verticals first. Use masking tape and your fingers for your lines. NEVER use saliva, as it puts bacteria into the silicone and will go black quickly. Always use white spirit, fill the bottle cap and dip your finger in regularly, which will give a nice smooth shiny finish.
