Second shower of the day doesn't manage temperature properly
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.02 PM
Hi all, We have a shower installed with a mixer tap which is heated by our gas combi boiler. There's two of us who shower every morning. The shower is always fine and temperature can be controlled as desired. The second shower however is a minefield and the water essentially has to be boiling hot or freezing cold. The temperature tap is really quite stiff (only 2ish years old) and any slight adjustment will send the heat drastically the other way. The confusing bit for me is why this only happens with the second shower, which leads me to think it may be a boiler issue - but not sure! Thanks, Mike

Sounds a bit like the thermostatic mixing valve has failed.

If thermostatic type mixer valve and as your description the fault is with the actual cartridge. Maybe scaled up and require removing descaling with descaler and to loosen and free up temperature control allowing even operation and flow of both hot and cold ports to be blended.
As with the one that's fine this is set to your manual desire.
This isn't a boiler hot water temperature issue.
Hope this helps
Thanks pd

Thermostatic cartridge faulty or needs descaling. Filters on mixer valve inlets could be blocked.
Possible but unlikely that boiler heat exchanger has buildup of limscale also.
