Advice on instillation of a new electricity box

I’m getting a new smart meter fitted in a few weeks and they have advised me to get a new box but have told me they can’t fit it who/ which trade would fit it ?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you would need a registered electrician to carry out work, he would issue test certs and notify building control. I suggest you check out the competent registry for suitable electrician.

You would only need a new consumer unit if the existing one is unsafe. If an electrician carries out a condition report (about £150) and passes it the meter company have no grounds for refusal.
I would contact a nearby electrician from the electrical safety register and discuss it with them.

When was the the electrical installation last inspected? If the meter installers are recommending a new consumer unit then I suspect they have seen something that has given then cause for concern, though sometimes their knowledge is not as wide as that of an electrician. I would advise ringing a local electrician to come and have a look and take their advice. If the consumer unit is very old, then maybe so is the wiring?
