Hi, I moved a light switch which was working. It's a 1 gang dp. There are 3 wires coming into it. Black and red, 2x blue and brown and 3 earths from each wire. I've only moved it by a foot, trimmed the wires and re wired exactly the same and now it wont work. Electrician came round and said the live was coming in but the switch was faulty. I've replaced the switch but still no light coming on. I just cant see why it now doesnt work. I'm also unsure why theres so many wires ? Any advice welcome
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Im unable to be sure without looking but the 3 cables sound like you have a feed in neutral and earth, feed out neutral and earth and switched live and neutral.
Have you made sure that the you definitively have everything connected up right as it sounds like that the switch isnt connected correctly
At a guess without seeing.i would think the red will be in common the browns will be in L1 and the black and blues would be in a connector block . This is assuming the black and red are original live and neutral to the switch and brn and blue are a new feed to lights. Obviously without seeing it a bit of a guessing game.
As previously very hard without testing cables. Does switch only operate 1 light, if only 1 light then it looks like it's been rewired with new colours blue and brown and the red and black (old wiring left in) the blue neutrals should be connected.together and earths connected together or into back box if metal. The switched live and live connected to light com and l1.
Sorry to say this but you need to get an approved electrician in to resolve this issue? Your wording if I am correct states you have a 1 gang switch with 9 wires behind in total?? ( 3x twin & earth) You also say an electrician came out and said it’s a faulty switch ? What electrician doesn’t carry spare switches or quickly identifies these cables ? Something is wrong here , I would have assumed the lighting is looped at the switch and the old black & red cable is redundant ...Don’t risk any more problems and call in a professional
