Plastering around sliding doors
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.43 PM
We have had some sliding doors installed however around the trim we are unsure whether to put a plastic trim to cover the gap from the frame to the wall or plaster right against plastic frame?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, this would depend on what is in the gap, if the frame is right up against the wall you could have it skimmed for a neat edge, if the frame has been packed out away from the wall and leaves a small gap where you can see right through then a trim panel to cover it would be the easiest and most cost effective solution. if you opt for it to be plastered then the plasterer should be able to blend the new work into the existing wall.

I think a plastic trim may be the better option as when the sliding doors are being used, the opening and shutting will cause vibrations and movement along the frame. So, perhaps a plastic trim may be better as this wouldn’t crack. Where with all this movement going on, the plastering would be more likely to crack over time.

Hi there when you have two different building materials you cover the point where the the two materials meet with a trim because there is always movement between the different materials.
